At naiida Tandartsen, your child is welcome from the moment their first tooth appears. We start with settling in, not treatment. Your child gets to know the room, the chair, and the sounds. Through play. How a child experiences the dentist has a lifelong impact. That is why we build trust from the very beginning. Oral care for children up to 18 years of age is covered by basic health insurance.
Take your child along as soon as the first teeth start coming through. Sometime between 6 months and 1 year. Not for a treatment yet. Just to get used to the space, the chairs, the sounds, and the people. Playfully. The sooner your child gets to know the dentist as a normal place, the easier it will be later on.
The first visits are introductions. We count the teeth together. We show the instruments. We turn it into a game. This way, your child learns that the dentist isn't scary. There is no pressure yet. We follow how far your child wants to go.
Around the age of 2 to 3, we perform simple check-ups. We look inside the mouth and assess how the teeth are developing. You receive brushing advice tailored to your child's age. Everything proceeds at your child's pace. If it doesn't feel right, we stop.
Cavities in baby teeth occur. If work is required, we take our time. We explain things in language your child understands. We work with patience and the right compliments, step by step. Your child always knows what is coming. We do not promise a cavity-free set of teeth. We do promise, however, that it will proceed calmly.
We do not punish. We do not threaten. We do not lure with rewards. That might work once. After that, it costs trust. A child who learns that the dentist can be trusted holds onto that for a lifetime. That is what we are building on.
You are welcome in the treatment room. Children sense how you are feeling. If you stay relaxed, your child will feel it. We will also discuss brushing at home. That is where the real work happens. Every day, twice.

No, that isn't necessary right away. The first few times are for getting used to it. Your child is allowed to look, feel, and set their own pace. If a check-up isn't successful yet, we'll try again another time. We build it up step by step. This way, the dentist remains a calm place.
