Implants

What an implant is

An implant replaces a missing tooth. It is an artificial root that is placed in your jawbone. We then place a crown, a bridge, or snap-on dentures on top of it. At naiida Tandartsen, we offer implantology in collaboration with a specialized implantologist. This way, your healthy neighboring tooth is often preserved. We first assess whether an implant is suitable for your situation.

What is an implant?

An implant takes the place of the root of a missing tooth. It is a small screw made of biocompatible material, usually titanium. The implantologist places it in your jawbone. In the months that follow, the bone grows around it. This creates a solid foundation.

A fixed crown for a single tooth, a bridge for multiple teeth, or a snap-on denture that clicks a removable prosthesis into place is placed on that implant.

A bridge rests on your adjacent teeth. These must be ground down for this. An implant stands on its own. Your healthy adjacent teeth remain as they are. That is why an implant is often the most tooth-preserving solution for a missing tooth.

When is an implant right for you?

An implant can be suitable if you are missing one or more teeth. It also provides stability for a removable denture. And it saves a healthy adjacent tooth that would otherwise be ground down for a bridge.

Whether it is truly possible depends on your situation. The implantologist examines your jawbone, your gums, and your general health. Sometimes there is insufficient bone, and a build-up is needed first. Smoking and certain medical conditions make healing more difficult. We are honest about this beforehand.

We start with an intake. We image your jaw using an X-ray or scan. Afterwards, you decide together with us what is the sensible course of action. For complex cases or jaw surgery, we refer you to a specialist.

The treatment process

An implant treatment plan spans several appointments. You have the time. We explain every step before we begin.

Throughout the entire process, naiida Tandartsen remains your dedicated point of contact. The implantologist handles the surgical part. We know you and your story.

Intake and examination. We discuss your wishes and take an X-ray or scan. Together, we determine the plan.
Placement. The implantologist places the implant under anesthesia. You will feel pressure, but no pain.
Healed. In the months that follow, your jawbone fuses around the implant. You will receive a temporary solution for that period.
The crown or bridge. Once everything has fused properly, we place the definitive crown, bridge, or snap-on denture.
Aftercare. An implant requires proper brushing and flossing. We will monitor this together during your check-up.

What we tell honestly

We do not promise a perfect result in advance. Every mouth is different. With proper care, an implant often lasts for years. We do not guarantee the outcome. Not every situation is suitable for an implant with us. We refer complex cases and oral surgery elsewhere. This ensures you receive care where it is most appropriate.

You will be well anesthetized during the procedure. You will feel pressure, not pain. Afterwards, the area may be sensitive or swell slightly for a few days. This is normal and will go away on its own. Usually, a standard painkiller is sufficient. We will tell you exactly what to expect beforehand.

Expect a few months from start to finish. The majority of this is waiting time. Your jawbone needs time to fuse around the implant. The placement itself and the crown each require only one appointment. In the meantime, you will receive a temporary solution so that you can laugh and eat normally.

The costs depend on your situation: the number of implants, whether bone needs to be built up, and any additional costs. You will receive a clear estimate in advance so that you will not face any surprises. Implants are usually not covered by basic insurance. Sometimes supplementary insurance covers a portion. More information can be found on the rates page.

Neither is always better. An implant spares your healthy adjacent teeth, as they do not need to be ground down. A bridge is often completed faster and is sometimes the better choice if there is insufficient jawbone. What suits you depends on your teeth and your wishes. We compare the options.

Not always. You need sufficient healthy jawbone and strong gums. If there is insufficient bone, build-up is sometimes possible first. Smoking and certain medical conditions make healing more difficult. The implantologist assesses with a scan whether it is advisable for you. For complex cases, we will refer you to another specialist.

The surgical part is performed by a specialized implantologist with whom we collaborate. This ensures that an experienced practitioner performs the placement. naiida Tandartsen remains your dedicated point of contact. We know your teeth, create the treatment plan, and take care of the crown and check-ups. Therefore, you do not have to go to an unfamiliar practice for the rest of your care.

The screw is usually made of titanium, a biocompatible metal that the body tolerates well. Completely metal-free zirconia implants also exist, but they are not suitable for every situation. Would you prefer not to have metal? Discuss it with us. We will then look together with the implantologist at what is possible for you. You can read more about materials at materials that suit you.
